Creative Encounters: Manifesto Library (London)

Free – no ticket required

Join artist Zoe Thompson at Dua Lipa’s London Literature Festival for a special workshop celebrating the Manifesto Library, a powerful collection of 100 books from around the world that challenge power and censorship and celebrate underrepresented and silenced voices.

Known for her striking DIY zines and creative workshops, Thompson champions zine-making as a radical tool of expression and grassroots activism. Join her as she guides you to create your very own collaged and illustrated zine inspired by one of the books handpicked from a selection of the Library’s titles.

Each book is drawn from one of the library’s four categories – Power, Control, Voice, Memory. My Pen Is the Wing of a Bird (MacLehose Press, 2022) sits in the Voice section, alongside landmark titles like The Color Purple by Alice Walker, The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie, and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong – work that amplifies perspectives that have been systematically excluded.

At this event, you’re invited to create your own interpretation of the text and its place in contributing to freedom of thought. Explore what it means to make marginalised cultures, ideas and communities visible. For those who want to, the evening culminates with a group zine swap, sending you home with someone else’s handcrafted zine, and your next great book recommendation.

About the Manifesto Library
In June 2026, the Manifesto Library opened in Livraria Lello, an iconic bookshop in Porto, Portugal. This new, permanent library is a collaboration between Livraria Lello and Service95 Book Club (founded by Dua Lipa) and is dedicated to books that challenge power, censorship, exclusion and dominant narratives, creating a living cultural space for reading, debate and public reflection.

The Manifesto Library is not an archive of censorship, but a contemporary statement about the role of books in society. Dua Lipa says, ‘here you will find 100 books that ask questions, or have been questioned. Some have been banned by school districts for themes of race or sexuality. Others, written for LGBTQIA+ readers, have been restricted from display. In some cases, the author has paid for their words with their life. This library is a shrine to books that have disappeared, to authors whose courage unmasks structures of power and control, and to readers who refuse to be told what book they are allowed to read.’

Service95 Book Club is a space to enjoy all things literary, including Dua Lipa’s hand-picked Monthly Reads and her exclusive author interviews, plus new book trends, recommendations from the Service95 team and more ways for you to read the world differently.
