Chair of the Board

In many parts of the world, writers don’t have access to the creative or cultural industries necessary to develop their writing and to find readers/audiences for their fiction or non-fiction. Founded in 2020, initially to support Afghan women, Untold Narratives CIC works with writers marginalised by community or conflict.

We deliver a development programme for writers to develop their work, share their stories with wider communities in their own languages and grow global audiences in translation. Our work has attracted incredible support from global funders and we have a strategic plan for growth in place.

As the term of our founding Chair draws to an end, we are looking for someone who shares our passion for what we do to take up the role and build on her excellent legacy. Our new Chair will maintain a clear vision, ensure a strategic focus, and hold the organisation accountable for the delivery of its strategic plan 2025-2027. They will:

  • Be committed to Untold’s vision and have a sophisticated understanding of its context.
  • Be well connected within our sector – literature, international development, social equity and freedom of expression.
  • Have an impressive track record of working collaboratively, a high level of skill at developing teams, and a deft approach to external relations and reputation.
  • Have experience of planning and leading the growth of a small social enterprise.

This is a three-year term, eligible for re-appointment for a second term, at the discretion of the Board.  Time commitment will vary but could require approximately half a day per week. The Chair is not paid, but reasonable expenses, including travel, can be reimbursed.
