Cortina Butler

Chair

Cortina is Deputy Director Arts at the British Council where she works developing connections between UK artists and organisations and their international peers and building audiences worldwide for UK arts and culture. She joined British Council as Director Literature in 2013. She brings extensive senior level experience in international publishing especially illustrated non-fiction and reference. She has been a Director of the visual arts rights organisation DACS and is a Trustee of the Art360 foundation. 

Will Forrester

Director

Will is Literature Manager at English PEN. Previously, he project managed Untold’s Write Afghanistan project and has worked for Commonwealth Writers, and as an independent expert for the EU Commission’s Creative Europe programme. He is an editor for Review 31, a Clore Emerging Leader 2022, and a judge for the 2024 US National Translation Award. His writing has appeared in the Guardian, Los Angeles Review of Books, London Magazine and elsewhere.  He edited the anthology All Walls Collapse: Stories of Separation (Comma Press, 2022).

Sarah Gardner

Director

Sarah has 30 years’ experience as a leader in the culture sector, covering policymaking, networking, governance, public affairs, marketing, research and international project management. From 2001-2017, she was the founding Executive Director of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) and is now an advisor to cultural organisations. Sarah is based in Sydney, Australia.

Lucy Hannah

Director

Lucy is founder and director of Untold Narratives. A social entrepreneur, editor and author, she has worked with writers in the UK and worldwide to develop and promote their work. Other initiatives Lucy has established include Commonwealth Writers, Out of the Gate and BBC Writers. She is a Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College, London and a director of the Bocas LitFest in Trinidad. She was co-editor of My Dear Kabul (Hodder/Coronet, 2024).
