“Running on Time” | Exiled Ink Magazine

Running on Time, a non-fiction piece by Paranda writer Nooria Fakhree Aryan, translated from Dari by Shekiba Habib, was published in Exiled Ink Magazine’s 8th issue Writing in Exile. Nooria’s story follows one day of her life in exile in Germany, in which she explores her relationship with time.

“After dropping the children at school, I like to walk home, counting my steps as I go. I use the time to hold a morning meeting with myself, enjoying my own company. I begin the meeting by addressing myself and then I go through the details of the day ahead, making contingency plans for anything that might disrupt the schedule. I put all my plans in separate little rooms in my mind; one for today, one for tomorrow, one for five years’ time. In Hamburg, if you don’t plan ahead, you won’t get anything done.”
