International Stage (London Book Fair)
Tuesday 10 March 2026
11:15am – 12:00pm
Terms like “local”, “emerging” and “underrepresented” carry hierarchies shaped by history, geography and power. Decolonisation requires reckoning with language – and demands infrastructure. This panel explores how long-term collaboration between writers, publishers, agents, translators and editors can shift the market, shape publishing futures, and redress structural inequity – examining how ambitious writing and enthusiastic readerships can be connected despite barriers between them. In the context of Sudan and South Sudan, what mechanisms and networks can ensure an equitable creative ecosystem that can grow and sustain itself?
This is an Untold Narratives event, in partnership with the British Council and the British Library.
Yassmin Abdel-Magied (Chair), Bibi Bakare-Yusuf (Speaker), Alma Salem (Speaker) and Hazem Jamjoum (Speaker)
The session is open to all London Book Fair Pass Holders.
